Gamlebyen Villa

Surrounded by industrial buildings from different eras, Gamlebyen villa is marking a transition between the railway infrastructure in Lodalen and Gamlebyen's 19th-century brick quarters. Designed by architect Ole Stein (1867-1950), the villa was built in 1912 as the residence for the supervisor at Kværner Bruk.

The building is of significant cultural heritage value, serving as a historical marker of the area's rich industrial past. It is part of a series of brick villas in Gamlebyen that were constructed as homes for middle-class industrial and railway workers around the turn of the century. The villa exemplifies early 20th-century architecture, featuring understated Art Nouveau details, particularly around the entrance and is included on the municipal Yellow List by Oslo's Cultural Heritage Management Office.

Gamlebyen Villa will be transformed into a more accessible, open office and studio community with 7 rental units, a shared basement hall, a library, and communal gardens for the entire Gamlebyen Loft. As usual, the common areas will be made available for the neighborhood and the city through booking and rental, whenever possible.

Stay tuned!
